Qualifications
Mr. Beaton is well qualified to carry out this work. He has undertaken a wide variety of ERP-related projects, including numerous needs analyses and the evaluation of many software packages. He performed end-to-end management for the implementation of a Symix system (now known as Syteline, and recently acquired by Mapics). In this project, he developed the project plan, selected project team members, collected and upgraded data for loading into the system, provided training and consulting support to the core team, and provided ongoing support, including the creation of over 200 custom reports written in the Progress 4GL. This project was performed for Brampton Engineering Inc., a company that designs and manufactures capital equipment for the plastics processing industry.
Mr. Beaton, in his role as Senior Systems Analyst at JDS Uniphase, acted as Team Lead for the Optical Amplifiers (OA) business unit in the implementation of Oracle Manufacturing. He took charge of data cleansing and provided support and direction to the other OA team members. He also managed the migration of data from a MISys system used by AFC Inc., a company acquired by JDS Uniphase, into JDS Uniphase’s Visibility system.
More recently, Mr. Beaton provided consulting services to Ionalytics Corporation, an NRC spin-off. Mr. Beaton facilitated the selection of an ERP system and provided project management services in the implementation of the chosen system.
Mr. Beaton has a Masters in Business Administration from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario. His studies included Management of Information Systems and Manufacturing Policy. He has in-depth knowledge of manufacturing and operations management, and has lectured and taught at the University of Ottawa MBA program, and at Algonquin College’s programs for APICS and the PMAC.
Mr. Beaton has been consulting to management on and off for 20 years, and has held a number of management and executive positions. He has a proven track record of successful engagements. He understands manufacturing and the technology and systems required to make manufacturing successful.
Mr. Beaton is an active member of the Advisory Boards of the Ottawa Manufacturers’ Network and of the eSCM Bachelor of Applied Business Program at Algonquin College.
